Welcome To The Harem

Laurie Holden Speaks To The Official Site
Summary: Transcript of Laurie Holden's interview with the X Files Official Site. See the video here.

LAURIE: "I'm actually am recognised more than - well, more than I ?want to. Usually I just think people are smiling or just being very friendly and then after a minute or so I realise it's from The X Files - someone will just kind of whip out, 'Oh, I love you on the show' after they've just sort of smiled and been friendly for a while. So yeah, I actually am recognised quite a bit, which always surprises me because in real life I think I look a lot different to Marita. Usually I get recognised in very, um, embarrasing situations. For example, when my Fedex delivery guy came to my house and I had a facial mask on my face [chagrined look] and, yeah, it was green when I opened the door. And as I signed off, he says, 'Oh, I love you on The X Files,' which was one of the more embarrasing moments because I immediately thought that was going to be on the internet - [smiling] that I looked like a swamp lady."

[EDIT CUT TO]

LAURIE: "Marita and Krycek were definitely involved. They definitely had a lot of history together. I think they both pulled one over on the other at different points, so - bit of a love-hate relationship, Marita and Krycek. Many secrets."

[LAURIE LOOKS DOWN AT A PIECE OF PAPER - APPARENTLY HAS HER QUESTIONS ON IT]

LAURIE: (quoting) "What were some of my favourite X Files moments, onscreen and off?"

[SOME KIND OF OFF-CAMERA CONFIRMATION]

LAURIE: "There's been so many wonderful moments. Um, I think in particular, I'll never forget - I was shooting a scene with David [Duchovny] - I think it was the second episode I ever did - perhaps it was Teliko? And we were outside on the supposed steps of the UN, and I was new to the show and a little overwhelmed because I knew it was this cult hit, and there was this bar-restaurant that was just a few feet away and then all of a sudden they were playing over the loudspeaker the theme from The X Files [hums it, badly] - WHILE we were shooting! And it was just so surreal to be shooting at one o'clock in the morning in Vancouver and hearing this X Files music coming over the loudspeaker. Just knowing I was part of something so incredible, so epic."

[OFF CAMERA INTERVIEWER - INAUDIBLE. LAURIE LOOKS AT HER PAPER]

LAURIE: "What? Oh, yeah - as Laurie Holden interviews herself."

[LAURIE LOOKS OVER QUESTIONS AND APPARENTLY DOESN'T LIKE ONE OF THEM - RAISES HER EYEBROWS AND CLEARS HER THROAT, AND PICKS ANOTHER]

LAURIE: [quoting] "How do I feel about the show ending?"

[OFF CAMERA - INAUDIBLE]

LAURIE: (nodding) "I think it's been a great run. I mean, nine seasons - it's a huge accomplishment, and I think it's a great testament to the show, to the following, to what this has been in television history. The very fact that so many people that have been part of it at different times throughout the show have come together for the season finale, the last episode ever. We've all loved being here, it's a very special treasure in part of all our lives, so...now they'll make the movies [smiling], so...it continues. It continues, it just gets bigger."

[OFF CAMERA - INAUDIBLE]

LAURIE: "I wasn't - I wasn't familiar with the show, really. I became one of the sci-fi fans when I got involved. [grins] Well, I had to catch up! I had to know what I was doing - I was going to be part of this cult show that I had no idea was so different from anything I'd known or seen before."

[CUT TO]

LAURIE: "It's been wonderful. In many ways, as corny as it sounds, I've grown up on the show. I started right after I graduated from university (DESLEA NOTE: BA in theatre from UCLA, class of 1993), I've been a part of it for, gosh, five or six years, so this has been a really important time - formative years. Very unforgettable."

[CUT TO:]

LAURIE: "One of the people I really enjoyed working with was William B Davis, who plays the Cigarette Smoking Man. And I have to say that I'm glad I didn't get to know him before some of our scenes together, because he is so incredibly sweet and nice and lovely and it would have just made it so much more difficult to hate him (laughs). So - yeah, he was just a doll. So unlike his character. He doesn't even smoke. (mock-whispers) I shouldn't have said that."

[INAUDIBLE - OFF CAMERA]

LAURIE: "Yeah, I'm really excited, because I'm just about to do a scene with Gillian for the first time. (DESLEA NOTE: A scripted scene in Scully's apartment which didn't air). We've been talking about it for years now. I've worked with David, and Skinner, and CSM, but I've never done a scene with Scully. I mean I did a scene with Scully when we just happened to be in the same scene (DESLEA NOTE: Requiem) but - I'm kind of excited because I think she's so good at what she does. Scully and Marita, they meet, they talk - I'm looking forward to that conversation."

[INAUDIBLE - OFF CAMERA - NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I LISTEN! SCULLY'S NAME IS MENTIONED.]

LAURIE: "From my lips to Chris Carter's ears. (laughs) I think so."
